Located in the heart of Somerset County, New Jersey, Somerville’s New Cemetery is a Victorian garden cemetery

This cemetery’s venerable landscape by a master designer is a historical treasure officially recognized as eligible for the
National Register. On its gravestones can be traced the history of Somerville. Here every Memorial Day the
townspeople gather around the Veterans’ Circle to pay tribute to those who have served their country.
Among those for whom the New Cemetery is a final resting place are 190 Civil War Veterans, including 19 US Colored Troops.
